The Mut Hut Pet Emporium is pleased to be launching a new children’s book series about dogs entitled The Adventures of Howard!! The first book in the series, Howard’s First Days, was unveiled at a Book Launch November.

The series will feature the Mut Hut’s very own, Howard . . . or “Sir Howard” as he is known in some circles. Howard has had a distinguished career - first a working dog in an elementary school helping kids with challenges, and now as the official Mut Hut Product Manager (i.e. tester). With the debut of his first book, it is anticipated that it won’t be long before Howard is quite famous and a common household name. Of course, Howard is taking it all in stride commenting, “Ruff Ruff RUFF!”

Howard’s First Days is written by local author, Sean Krausert, and illustrated by Mike McGann. The book tells the story of Howard as a 9 weeks old puppy who has just been adopted by the Lady-With-A-Big-Smile and the Man-With-The-Bones. While entertaining for the whole family, the book aims to educate kids and adults alike about bringing a puppy into a new home. With incredible illustrations and fun storytelling (including the invention of some brand new words), Howard’s First Days is expected to be very popular with readers. When asked about his favourite part of writing children’s books, Krausert responds, “I love inventing characters and getting inside their heads. Seeing the world through the eyes of Howard is like peaking inside a parallel universe.”

The series is the brain child of Mut Hut owner and operator, Charlene Cherniwchan. When researching books to stock in the store, she noticed that there was a gap in the marketplace. Cherniwchan states, “While there are lots of books about dogs, there are none oriented towards kids AND that teach them about having a dog. The Adventures of Howard!! is designed to fill that gap in a big way.” Cherniwchan and Krausert have big plans for getting Howard known far and wide.
